Alaskan Cruise 2012

Departure and Sail to Ketchikan

Skywalker Lounge is the place to watch the departure from Seattle...

Here we are in Ketchikan...

Hardy pioneer stock?

These ships are BIG!

A Potlatch is a Party...

They have Buicks in Alaska!

Totem pole...

Tic-Tac talks totems...

There was an odd little steam, antique car, and antique gun museum mixed in with the totem poles...

The door to the lodge is small and easily defended...

Moss grows on the roofs...

The Salmon Hatchery in Ketchikan

Eagle rehab center in Juneau...

She's magnificent, but will never fly again. She hit some power lines and severely broke a wing...

Salmon hatchery...

Peregrine falcon at the salmon hatchery...

Salmon are released into this stream. About 185,000 a year from this hatchery...

A thin veneer of civilization is maintained via High Tea each afternoon at 3:30...

On to Juneau

Larger than our other stops, but not exactly large...

From the Juneau Salmon Hatchery. It was much larger than Ketchikan, and releases almost 2 million a year. Less interesting though. We couldn't get close to the fish or hatching tanks...

Mendenhall Glacier

The blue color in glacier ice is so striking it doesn't look real...

Waterfall just to the right of the glacier...

Vistor's Center has a lovely view...
