Cayman Diving, February 2004

Day 3, Cayman Brac, The Wreck of the Tibbets

We almost didn't get to see the Tibbets--the rest of the divers had already been there. However, the divemaster was quick thinking, and decided there was something they hadn't seen near the Tibbets. He gave us directions to find the Tibbets, which amounted to going in the opposite direction of where the rest of group was headed. Fortunately, Caymanian diving is pretty stress free, with very calm waters and rare currents. At first, we weren't sure we were on the right track--you couldn't see the Tibbets and there was just a featureless white sandy bottom. Presently, however, her stern began to materialize from the gloom. This has to be one the most enjoyable and impressive dives I've ever had. The photos don't do it justice. You've got to go see the Tibbets for yourself!

Her stern emerges from the gloom...

On to Grand Cayman...
