Future Travel Intineraries

The Big Fantasy...

This is my dream trip. Eventually, I'll get to take it, but I've been planning it for some time. It's one of those things that keeps getting embellished. There's also the small matter of being able to afford it. I see it as an excellent celebration of a really big success that will be followed by a sufficient sabbatical in which to enjoy the fruits of the labor.

I first got the idea after watching a television program about an international fireworks competition that's held each year in Monte Carlo called the Monaco Fireworks Festival. This festival lasts for 5 nights and is the most spectacular display of pyrotechnics in the world. The other huge Monte Carlo event is the Grand Prix. What I propose doing for this trip is to tie the two together with a chartered mega-yacht. The two events are some ways apart. The Grand Prix is in June, while the Fireworks Festival is in July or August depending on the year. We'd start out renting a hotel room with a deck overlooking the Grand Prix advantageously. After the event was over, we'd board the yacht and sail the Mediterranean, ranging perhaps as far as Venice before returning for the Fireworks Festival. The Festival will most advantageously be viewed aboard the yacht, as the display is at the harbor.

Estimated costs?

The yacht pictured sleeps 10 (5 staterooms) and can be chartered for $75K per week. So, we can assume a cost of $15K/week. Given that this will be as much as an 8 week trip, that comes to $120K per couple. Let's say $240K if you are bringing the kids! Clearly, this is the most expensive part of the trip. I'd budget on the order of $320-350K for 4 and half that for a couple.

You have to dream big!
